about · the long version

Hi, I'mTarik

I build things: web products people actually pay through, and the systems under Roblox games. Away from the desk I'm outside, ideally somewhere with a waterfall. At the desk there's Chopin or afro house in my ears.

WHAT I DO

two disciplines · one habit: shipping
WEB & PRODUCT

Products, end to end

I design a product and then build it — the public site, the booking flow, the dashboard behind it. React and TypeScript up front, Postgres and Supabase underneath.

ROBLOX SYSTEMS

The parts players never see

Multiplayer systems under Roblox games: saves that survive a crash, networking the server stays in charge of, economies nobody can exploit — all tested.

HOW I WORK

the rules, and the soundtrack
how_i_work.txt — Notepad
  1. The server decides.

In games the client asks and the server checks range, rate and ownership before anything happens. On the web, same idea: the database is the truth, the UI is a view of it.

  2. Get it into git first.

Anything I take over moves into a real workflow before new features — version control, strict types, a linter and tests. It's slower for a week and faster forever after.

  3. Simulate before you argue.

Balance questions and edge cases get a script, not an opinion. A simulation once showed only ~9% of perfect players could clear a game we were building, so we changed the design.

  4. Write the decision down.

PRDs, decision logs, ADRs. Future me is a client too, and so is whoever joins the project next.

  5. Design and build are one job.

I design the product and then build it, so nothing gets lost between a mockup and the thing people use.

  6. AI in the loop, me on the hook.

I use Claude Code and MCP for inspecting, planning and implementing — and I review and verify everything it touches. The name on the commit is mine.

And the soundtrack: classical — Chopin above everyone — or afro house, mostly Afronom and Meliora. Put either on and I'm gone for hours.

OUTSIDE

away from the desk

Before the desk took over, I worked outside.

I was a nature guide — taking people out into places most of them had only seen in photos. My last job out there was waterfall jumper. Yes, that's a job. Yes, I jumped.

I did high diving too. It teaches you the same thing shipping does: prepare properly, then commit — hesitating halfway is the only really dangerous part.

Did you know...

My favourite composer is Chopin. My favourite afro house DJs are Afronom and Meliora. I see no contradiction.
